Destination: Nantucket

While in New England this summer, Whisper cruised to the charming island of Nantucket. This quaint summer destination is 30 miles south of Cape Cod, Massachusetts and here are a few of the many activities we recommend to guests that are vacationing here.

Rent a bike for the day and explore the many landmarks that trace Nantucket’s coast, including Brant Point Lighthouse, Sankaty Head Lighthouse, and the charming village of Siasconset (to name a few).

The Nantucket Whaling Museum gives an overview of whaling history and culture on the island. Take a few hours to explore the exhibits and enjoy various films, presentations and artifacts.

Enjoy music from top artists at the Chicken Box, a Nantucket institution, where locals and visitors alike gather for libations and entertainment.

Nantucket is a world-class shopping destination during the summer months, with top designer boutiques lining the streets downtown, including Ralph Lauren, Lily Pulitzer, Style Paris, Serenella and Jack Wills London.

“Nantucket Reds” are a wardrobe staple on the island, and Murray’s Toggery Shop has an unmatched selection. The store has been a Nantucket fixture for over half a century and also offers up other types of apparel for men, women and children.

Nantucket Lightship Baskets are not only beautiful but also rich in heritage, dating all the way back to the island’s earliest inhabitants. To pick up your very own hand-woven treasure, stop into The Basket Shop, just two miles from town center.  For more history on the baskets, visit the Nantucket Lightship Basket Museum

Luxury hotel, The Wauwinet offers the finest of dining with its waterside restaurant Toppers located on the eastern side of the island. Prepare to be “wowed” by its menu of sophisticated American cuisine that includes exquisite renditions of comfort foods like fish and chips and mac-‘n’-cheese.

For a casual atmosphere with equally delicious fare, head downtown to Straight Wharf Restaurant. Sip from mason jars while enjoying a fresh spin on seafood classics like Nantucket oysters bathed in a green tomato-cucumber mignonette, and buttered lobster served with sweet corn, chorizo, potatoes and littleneck clams.
