According to Sandy Carney, Churchill
Yacht Partner's charter manager, many travel industry observers claim
that Croatia, with its interesting ports along the Adriatic Sea, is
fast becoming the Mediterranean "sail-to" destination. Carney suggests
an explanation for this trend: "The small ports have old-fashioned charm,
combined with an economy that favors visitors." Several sailings in
and out of Dubrovnik, Croatia, are included in WHISPER'S schedule.
Among Ports-of-call in Croatia (Many
of them still industry secrets) are:
Dubrovnik—Dubrovnik offers visitors the feeling
of historic nostalgia as they travel on foot along the ancient city's
walled corridors. It is easy to become lost in the adventure this city
offers with its historical medieval architecture and world-class shopping.
Korcula—Nestled
between vineyards and olive groves, Korcula is a small ancient city
on the Adriatic. This island's forests make it popular among nature
lovers the world over.
Hvar—In central Dalmatia, the small island of
Hvar enjoys a mild, sunny climate. This temperate region makes it an
especially attractive resort area.
Rab—Located
along the Kvarner Bay in the Northern Adriatic, Rab is a tiny town whose
inhabitants embody the rich traditions of agriculture, fishing and shipbuilding.
Trogir-Trogir is both a town and harbor
on Kastelanski Bay. Relics of antiquity are shelved in its impressive
museum, weathered libraries, and galleries of art.
Rovinj—An
ancient settlement of great beauty, Rovinj has attracted visitors as
far back as the 8th century. Known for its truffle fields, it is a favorite
upscale port.
Carney called WHISPER'S active
2005 schedule and itineraries a "best case scenario," given the high
demand for WHISPER generated by the Fort Lauderdale International Boat
Show, where WHISPER was the talk of the town.
